  2017 Festival Programme

Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival will celebrate its 63rd Birthday in September 2017 with a 3 day programme of fantastic events in the festival marquee on Nimmo’s Pier, Galway City!

Please note that the full programme of events will be released in early 2017 and that the information below may be subject to change.

 Friday 22nd September

Opening Night – 7pm til late  

Join us at 7pm for the National Oyster Opening Championships followed by the opening night party. The 2016 Irish National Champion is Michael Moran of Moran’s on The Weir.

11.45 – Close, DJ bringing a unique blend of music from across the decades.

There will be live music and entertainment all evening. Tickets for the night include 1 drink token (beer or wine) and a food dish from the festival kitchen. A Full bar will be available throughout the evening.

Saturday 23rd September

World Oyster Opening Championships  – From 2pm 

The day begins with a lively ‘parade of competitors’ which weaves its way through the narrow medieval streets of the city down to the Festival Marquee on Nimmo’s Pier.  There will be plenty of noise, colour and excitement for all to enjoy.

The highly competitive World Oyster Opening Championships is the highlight of the day. Oyster openers from all over the world will be vying for the title. Sweden’s Johan Malm is the 2016 holder of the title. There will be plenty of live music throughout the day .

Tickets include 1 drink token (wine or beer), a half dozen oysters and two dishes from the festival kitchen.

Saturday September 23rd

Masquerade Mardi Gras – 8pm till late

A highlight of the festival calendar sees masked revellers party the night away in a Masquerade Carnival of Revelry!

The night will begin with an Oyster and Prosecco reception followed by starter course in different venues around Galway. Then parade ‘Mardi Gras style’ to the final venue for main course, desert and dancing til the wee hours.

Sunday 24th September 

Féile Bia Na Mara – Wild Atlantic Tastes

12pm to 7pm Sunday Family Day

The final day of festivities is a family day  catering for adults and children alike. In the Festival Marquee there will be musical performances. There will also be live cooking demos throughout the day as well as plenty of entertainment for the children.

Kids under 12 go free!
